Extendable Tentacles
Oh dear, I think I may have hurt my back.
One of the fundamental ideas behind the creation of this blog is helping to bridge some of the gaps in hip hop. There are many artists in the scene who have no idea that other artists even exist, and considering that the Internet sends people like Bangs into worldwide popularity, I figure I might as well do my bit to expose the real heads to each other (no homo).
To that end, I have linked up a twitter account: you can hit me up on @viciousverse for instantaneous blog gratification. I have also created four twitter lists. One is for hip hop artists – the rappers, DJs and producers that make this shit go forward. If you are not on the list, and want in on the list, then tweet me and I’ll see right to it. Another list is for gigs and promoters – these are the places and people that put the shows on, so peep it if you wanna pick up some knowledge. There’s a list for media, which will soon fill up with tweets from other bloggers, radio stations, and whoever else is known to report the goings-on in the scene, and finally a list for labels, if you want to get the scoop on the business end of hip hop.
The great thing about lists is that you can just subscribe to that instead of populating your page with random conversations between two rappers you’ve never met. Just leave your main account to your actual friends or the people you’re trying to spy on – then click the followed list when you want to see what hip hop is up to.
The lists are found on my twitter page, linked on the right: remember, if you want on the list, just tweet me @viciousverse and I’ll get right on it.
Twitter was the easy bit – MySpace is SO SLOW. It is, however, a proven marketing tool for artists and still a pretty effective way to get your music heard. It’s also a fantastic way to hurt your back, mine is twisted into that wierd shape that you see painted on yoga studio doors from leaning in a funny way and clicking too many times. I’ve made a MySpace musician page and I intend to fill the friends list with all the active artists in the scene.
My back can’t handle that so in typical Aussie fashion I’m going to get others to do the hard work for me. I’ve already added a few artists but if you read this and want in on the list, add me to yours. As a show of thanks for the effort you put into my free advertising, I’ll put a song of your choice onto the MySpace “VV Radio” playlist – hopefully creating a fairly diverse selection of music the scene is putting out right now. Who knows, maybe in the future I’ll put something special up on there that is exclusive to Vicious Verse.
If you’ve got any news, say a fresh film clip or sick new track being made public, you can always just e-mail me and I might make a blog post about it. Don’t be offended if it doesn’t go up – it’s important for me to keep things fairly diverse round here and I don’t want to clog the RSS feed with more than one post per day. But if I do post it up, it will filter through the Vicious Verse twitter and MySpace accounts – and if you want to tell people something, it can’t hurt to tell them twice (plus this way you aren’t going to cop hell for spamming). My e-mail address is viciousverse@gmail.com and even if you haven’t got anything to promote, I’m pretty keen to hear from heads in the scene about what they’re up to and what’s going down.
I’m starting small but aiming big with Vicious Verse, so stay tuned for massive shit that will rock your brain. I can’t really do that alone though; you scratch my back and I’ll make a gargling noise then tell everyone how good it is. Get your hustle on!
