I’m Not Paying For Nothin’

I opened some rather concerning letters this morning.  It turns out the State Debt Recovery Office are on my tail for reasons that remain undisclosed, and a lot of my cash is going to be tied up until I get a chance to strut on down there and slap someone upside the skull.  What’s a guy to do in the meantime?  Retail therapy is clearly out of the question; so it’s a good thing that the generous hip hop community has provided some free gear over the summer for all the broke scene junkies like you and me.  Here’s a small selection.

Force & Sparts - Powerlines

First up is Powerlines by Force & Sparts.  For a union that seemingly came from the Internet, this actually turned out quite good.  It’s straight up Australian hip hop helmed by experienced rapper G-Force and the strangely talented newcomer Sparts.  Both are regular posters on OzHipHop.com but the subject material extends well beyond the forum, and while some tracks are spat over jacked classics they’ve gone ahead and roped in some exclusive production from Blazin’ Marty, Wik and Xcise.  Find it HERE.

Phatty Phew - The Best Things In Life Are Free

Phatty Phew is a rapper with a good rep and the skills to live up to it, coming at us with the aptly named  The Best Things In Life Are Free.  This release represents a return from hiatus since his last release, 23 Years In The Making, and is a complete 5 track EP that is professionally presented with production by Alter Ego and cuts by DJ BoguesHERE it is!

Cee & Bekah - The Soul Movement vol. 3

Cee & Bekah bring some free groove with The Soul Movement vol 3: The Final Chapter.  Sure, the accent debate could be applied here but it’s very easy to look right past that when they’re playing music that can magically remove your girlfriend’s pants.  The duo rap and croon over some borrowed tunes but it also features some original gear and has a track by talented producer Styalz Fuego.  Go HERE for the download.

Bay Side Wreckers present The Off Season

Bay Side Wreckers haven’t done much this summer, unless you consider a Big Day Out appearance and the ongoing release of The Off Season.  Each week of summer they’ve dropped a new track into the collection and it’s been great to have a something to look forward to each Monday.  There’s still a few weeks of summer left, so check in HERE to see if Jabs and Sloba keep up their promise.

Koolism - Hanz High

Koolism!  Everyone knows Koolism.  I know Koolism, your mum knows Koolism, and when me and Marty McFly time-travelled in a Delorean back to the year 3 B.C. we met three wise men who were totally amped for Koolism.  Hau just dropped a free sample of their upcoming album but as far as anyone should be concerned, one Koolism track is worth five free mixtapes.  Grab your frankincense and trot on over HERE.

So really, it doesn’t matter how much the electoral commission want you in court, as long as you’ve still got back-up battery on your laptop and the internet is still humming along then you can abuse the generosity of the hip hop community and download some free music.  Summer is great.  Free stuff is great.  Get downloading!
